Why to have naturalized it Chinese ? Quite simply because its supposed ancestor would be Taï-Taï Mandchou, crowned dog of Ch' ing dynasty, itself having remote African origins. So, it was one time when our friend was called " Royal Chinese naked Dog " then " Chinese naked Dog of the boats ". Strange, is not ?

After the fall of the Ch' ing empire , one used these dogs on the boats to fight vermin, also as currency of exchange during the stopovers in all the wearings of Asia. Later, it seems that one finds it in America, in Mexico, having crossed the Bering Strait. He would be thus the ancestor of the naked Dog of Mexico.

We have more informations from the 18th century, at the time of the large browsers who left many writings attesting of the presence of these dogs on various continents. The Chinese Crested Dog was not foreign either on the Old Continent, as it prove a picture of Lucas Cranach the Old, dating from 16th century, than one can see in the Dresden Museum : Katharina von Mecklenburg with a little naked dog.

First, the naked one (except the head, the legs and the tail) whose absence of hairs is genetic, coming from a natural transfer. One of the most recent theories on this transfer is signed François Laurent in 1981. The theory of the climatic influence would be that which justifies more the aspect " mutationnel " of the loss of the hairs in the animals. This absence of pilosity would be due to the influence of a very hot climate combined with a very strong moisture. This phenomenon would have created a transfer which, being transmitted hereditarily, would have given rise to this new breed of dogs.

The second variety with hairs vaporous, longtime unknowed in France, and which itself affirm more and more nowadays, of which the denomination have vary several time to be finally recognize officially under the name of powderpuff.

The first Crested Chinese Dogs appear officially in France in 1973. The leaders of the time of the Club of the Chihuahua, who took in hand this second breed, did not want to speak about the powderpuff, which are however necessary to the safeguarding of the naked variety.

In a score of years, the S.C.C. recorded more than thousand births. The French dogs are very appreciated in show and continues its progression in a regular way (although too much slow for the taste of the amateurs).

Merry, intelligent, proud and without aggressiveness, the Chinese Crested Dog is also very affectionate. It adores the company of the man. Moreover, so that it does not become too exclusive, it is wise to impose rules to it during its youth.

Although very near to his Master, one could thus be occupied with his occupations at home without always having it in his legs. But do not mislead you, even if it appears to sleep, it is only of one eye, because nothing escapes to it!
